Can an Existing Mechanical Water Meter Be Used?
For Category B, C and D compliance after the transition period, an ordinary manually read mechanical water meter may not by itself satisfy a requirement for an automated measuring meter or smart meter.
Before replacing an existing meter, organisations should determine whether the proposed meter can support:
- Automatic consumption measurement
- Remote transmission of readings
- Reliable cumulative flow records
- WRA system or API integration
- Secure meter identification
- Tamper protection
- Appropriate communications technology
